What got you into CrossFit?
“There was this place that I kept seeing while driving called Marrero CrossFit close to my home and decided to call one day in December 2013. I spoke with the owner, Jonathan Marcomb. He told me to come in one day for a free class. I did! I told him I would be back. It took a few days and sure enough I went back and signed up for six months.  Life would be changed forever!”
How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?

“Lack of time is the most common excuse women give for skipping workouts. I was no exception! With a house to manage, a 15 year son and a step-son who are involved in everything life is VERY busy! But as busy as we are, there are extra minutes hiding in our day that we could use more effectively. I found that time management was key and sticking to a routine. It is now part of my daily routine”
What tips would you offer for someone just starting off?

“Set small goals not unrealistic ones. Do not be intimidated! Don’t ever be too proud to scale a WOD. We all were beginners at one time. The most important thing is to HAVE FUN!”
In your opinion what is the biggest benefit of CrossFit?
“There are so many! I feel like a BADASS! CrossFit is empowering and helps boost confidence. It’s great for Cardiovascular Conditioning. Your heart rate remains elevated throughout the entire workout, which increases your endurance.  The CrossFit atmosphere is very much like that of a sports team. Everyone supports and pushes each other, and there’s always a sense of competition. I also love that you never get bored from doing the same ol’ thing day in and day out. In CrossFit you flip tires, lift barbells, do gymnastic moves and complete your first pull-up…the list goes on.”
Have you seen results? If so can you explain in detail?
“The results have been amazing. The way I feel on the inside to how I look on the outside. I can’t tell you how many times people tell me I don’t look like the same person. I’ve tried things in the past, and nothing ever gave me the results that CrossFIt did. However, I never stuck with anything like I did Cross Fit either. Nothing every kept my interest! I was thrilled that I found something that I stuck with and saw results with proper nutrition. Nutrition is KEY”
How has Marrero CrossFit helped your fitness journey?
“I could have never reached my goals or successful on my journey without the support of my coaches and friends at Marrero CrossFit. The support has been amazing and everyone is so encouraging. We lift each other up day after day! We support each other between meal plans and constant encouragement. When someone is on a “weight loss or fitness journey” having support is one of the biggest keys. I’m not going to lie it isn’t EASY at all. It takes dedication and lots of hard work. It becomes a lifestyle change.”

From Coach Jonathan,
“Courtney started out with the worst clean I have ever seen in my life lol…. But credit to her she has one of the best cleans now. She was very open to coaching and allowed me and other coaches to coach her up. She does such a good job now that she even teaches a boot camp class on Saturdays for us now. I will always give her credit from where she started to where she is now. You did a great job getting to where you are in the fitness world. She is always in the gym motivating people when she works out and pushing others to be better. Keep getting better in everything you do and always keep doing what you are doing.”

What got you into CrossFit?
“I had never worked out before and it seemed like it had the push that I would need (group & coaches)”
How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?
“I make it a priority”
What tips would you offer for someone just starting off?
“If your just starting out, its hard but anything worth a damn takes work, in the beginning challenge yourself, not anyone else, that part will come in time”
In your opinion what is the biggest benefit of CrossFit?
“The biggest benefit is my health, my strength, and endurance these things carry over into your everyday life.”
Have you seen results? If so can you explain in detail?
“I am healthy. I feel younger, and I am half the size I was when I started (literally)”
How has Marrero CrossFit helped your fitness journey?
“It has been my only journey so I have nothing else to compare it too, but it is something that I now can’t imagine my life without and I am in better shape at 39 than I have ever been in my life.”

From Coach Jonathan,
“Shannon is always talking (ring leader) lol jj…. But seriously, she always puts in hard work and one of the things I loved that she accomplished is that mile run. I remember her not being able to run a 400m warm up without stopping. Now she has it under 10 mins easy. One of the best things about her that I love is that she quit smoking so her running can get better and to live a healthier life. I never had to do it but I hear it’s one of the hardest things there is to do. So, props to you and all of your hard work Shannon.”

What got you into CrossFit?
"I had heard of CrossFit but wasn't exactly sure what it was all about. Then a buddy who does it challenged that I couldn't hang in a CrossFit class. I thought I was in decent shape so I took the free starter classes. I did alright, but pretty quickly realized that I was nowhere near where I wanted to be.
I love the competitiveness of it, but it's also about seeing other people do well. After a tough workout, I definitely walk away feeling like I've been through something with everyone in class, and I try to congratulate others, even if I feel like they did better than me."

How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?
“It's part of my weekly routine. I figured out what classes I could make on which days, and stick to it, no excuses. It sounds crazy but now if a week goes by and my entire body doesn't feel sore, I miss it. ”

What tips would you offer for someone just starting off?
“Pace yourself, use light weight and work on form. Stick to it for a few weeks and if you give it your all you WILL see a difference. Success breeds success.”

Have you seen results? If so can you explain in detail?
“I have lost 10 lb or so, but more so I can see so much more tone in my body. I've been complimented at the beach. Working out regularly and seeing results made me want to eat better and drink less. I'm definitely not a health nut, but I'm 36 and in the best shape I've ever been in and I am nowhere close to my ceiling. That's what drives me to keep going. And my posture is 100x better.”

How has Marrero CrossFit helped your fitness journey?
“I've been a member of  24-hour gyms but have never been able to stick to anything for more than a few months. The friendly, competitive atmosphere is a big push for me. I like to push myself to keep up with others who are better than me. Also, working different muscle groups every day keeps things fresh. ”

What got you into CrossFit?
“I had heard of CrossFit but really didn't know anything about it. Eric (my son) tried a class. He described it as "balls to the wall" workouts. He said he really liked it. I knew I could try a class for free so there was nothing to lose.”
How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?
“5am! No excuse to miss...over and done and then my day begin and my evenings are free.”
What tips would you offer for someone just starting off?
“Don't worry about what everyone else can do and what you can't do. Everyone has to start somewhere. You are extremely sore but don't give up...keep going!!! You will not know what you are doing for a few months...don't feel stupid...you will get it, eventually!!”
In your opinion what is the biggest benefit of CrossFit?
“My posture has improved...my back (core) is getting stronger every day.  Biggest benefit is learning to lift correctly with coaching. “
Have you seen results? If so can you explain in detail?
“I have seen results unlike any other exercise program. There's no way i would know how to lift weight like I lifting now. Before CrossFit, the heaviest weight I lifted was a 20 lb. kettle bell. Now I do workouts with 55-85 lbs. And, I have lost 25 lbs!”
How has Marrero CrossFit helped your fitness journey?
“Marrero CrossFit has helped me to lose weight and get fit the right way. Working out at Marrero has helped me to reach goals I would have never dreamed I could do physically at my age. Most women slow down as they get older; I'm just getting stronger and faster!!”

From Coach Jonathan,
“Claire has had a constant progress in everything she does since she started. If she misses a couple days I know I just need to put rope climbs in the WOD (haha) and she will be there. She is the grandma that can do almost everything. It’s a hard thing to wake up early and go to class at 5am every morning, but as a coach it makes it easier for me when I know people like her is there waiting to get the workout in for that day. Good job for starting your day off right every morning!!!”

How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?
“I try to make at least 4 classes a week. I usually go to afternoon classes after work. ”

What tips would you offer for someone just starting off?
“I would recommend them to work on form for all drills before starting to build weight into their WODS.”

Have you seen results? If so can you explain in detail?
“Yes. I am stronger than before. My performance history shows increases in weight and time.”

How has Marrero CrossFit helped your fitness journey?
“All my crossfit family encourages each other to complete tasks. You are able to modify workouts as needed based on your comfort level and /or injuries. ”
